Join Our "BE THE WALL" Campaign
The Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with Drug Free Highlands (DFH), is launching a multi-media campaign intended to encourage and support parents, retailers, and community members
in their efforts to keep teens from drinking. DFH is a community collaboration of approximately 30 organizations and parents.

Over the next year, we will be asking the community to “Be the Wall” between teens and alcohol. Of special mention, we are in partnership with the Board of County Commissioners, Department of Juvenile Justice, Heartland Workforce, Highlands County Health Department, Heartland Education Consortium, Highlands County School Board and Avon Park, Sebring, and Lake Placid High School SADD Chapters,
Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, the Redlands Christian Migrant
Association, YMCA, Youth for Christ, and Tri-County Human Services.

The simply stated campaign is designed on the premise that while

alcohol may be the primary substance of choice for teens across
the state and country, underage drinking should be the single most
preventable at risk behavior among our teenagers. The multi-media
campaign is a piece of the partnership with the Department of
Children and Families and Florida Office of Drug Control. Its
components include an interactive web site where parents can text
their teen, humorous posters about natural communication gaps
between teens and parents, community displays, guerilla marketing
strategies and more. Click on The Wall and do four things. First, we
challenge you to take the pledge and become The Wall for our youth.
Second, Become a part of the solution for making Highlands County a safer community by joining a meeting.
Third, take a survey, and lastly, review the plan and the talking points to help in spreading the word. There is a tremendous amount of information and simple tools available to support our young folks; check out the website. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our campaign coordinator, Debbie Lees at (863) 385-0024.
Respectfully,
Susan Benton
