The Detention Security Division is responsible for the care, custody, and control of the inmates housed at the Highlands County Detention Facility. The Division is comprised of four squads, each supervised by a lieutenant and two sergeants. Each squad has detention deputies assigned to housing units as well as to Booking (intake and release).

The deputies assigned to Housing ensure that each inmate receives basic needs such as meals, medication, bedding, and personal hygiene items. They also supervise and monitor inmate behavior in the units in order to provide a safe housing environment.

Deputies assigned to Booking are responsible for processing all new arrivals to the jail and for inmates who are being released from our custody. Each new arrival is fingerprinted, photographed, advised of their charges, and given the opportunity to call a family member or bondsman if a bond is applicable. Inmates who are bonding out of jail or have otherwise met their release requirements are carefully processed to ensure that the right inmate is being released under the appropriate legal conditions.
