Nursing Administrator Dorothy Reed, RN began her career at the Highlands County Sheriff's Office in 2006 as B
ehavioral Health Coordinator. She was promoted to Nursing Administrator in 2015. Dorothy manages the Medical Department of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility while continuing to manage the Behavioral Health Program.
Dorothy grew up in Central Florida, graduated from Illinois Central College and earned her LPN in 1971. She returned to school and received her RN. She has worked forty-six (46) years as a Nurse in several areas; Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and now Correctional Nursing.
Dorothy is divorced, has one son, Chris, Daughter In-Law Jenny, two (2) grandchildren, Caleb and Emily and has been a resident of Highlands County since 1991.
The Medical Division is staffed and available 24/7. Staff includes: registered nurses (RN's) and licensed practical nurses (LPN's). Services include: medical screenings for acute and chronic illnesses, medical clinic is staffed 4 days a week with a physician and/or physician's assistant (PA's), laboratory, and X-rays. Medical coordinates outside appointments with physician's offices and/or dental exams. Medical also has mental health screenings and counseling with follow up appointments with psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) and/or licensed certified social worker (LCSW). Additionally, medical services administers prescribed medications and treatments, perform physicals, tuberculosis skin (PPD) testing and numerous medical exams.
